Chess Tournament

Our lunchtime chess club has been thriving. Six of our budding players had the opportunity to take part in the Waltham Forest and Haringey Schools Chess Tournament, where they competed against pupils from other local schools.

All six participants demonstrated impressive skill and determination, securing an excellent third-place finish.

Year 6

During STEAM Week, Year 6 took part in a stop-motion animation workshop, explored ‘sound mapping’, and experimented with chromatography.

Year 5

During their visit to the local fire station, Year 5 learned about fire safety, the vital role of firefighters, and how teamwork is essential in emergencies.
Their trip to Bruce Castle provided an opportunity to explore local history, where they stepped back in time and discovered elements of Viking life through engaging activities and authentic historical artefacts.

Year 4

Year 4 have enjoyed a range of exciting trips. They visited Percy House and Tottenham Stadium to explore coding, and Bruce Castle, where they took part in a Teeth Workshop to compare the teeth of different animals.
They also visited Tottenham Sixth Form College on World Book Day, alongside the rest of the Junior School, to listen to Michael Rosen share his stories and poetry.

Year 3

During STEAM week, the children loved the workshop with the mobile phone company 3, where they learned how to make animations. The children worked so hard in their groups and really enjoyed seeing the final videos.

Year 2

Each year, our school is transformed into a vibrant celebration of stories and imagination during Book Week. This year’s festivities included mystery readers, buddy reading sessions, and visits to Coombes Croft Library, all helping to spark a love of reading across the school.
A favourite tradition, ringing the school bell to signal “drop everything and read,” encouraged pupils to pause, pick up a book, and fully immerse themselves in the joy of storytelling.

Alongside these activities, students also enjoyed arts and crafts at lunchtime, adding a creative element to the week.
To make the experience even more memorable, children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life.

Year 1

During STEAM Week, Year 1 pupils made sandwiches and then explored which materials—paper, cardboard, tin foil, bubble wrap, and plastic—would be best for creating a lunchbox to keep them cool.

They also enjoyed testing the strength and stability of paper bridges. As budding engineers and architects, they experimented with different folding techniques to design structures and build the strongest bridges possible.

They also enjoyed a great trip to Hackney City Farm. They encountered a range of different farm animals, including donkeys, geese, chickens, cows, sheep, goats and pigs.

Reception

During the Spring Term, Reception had the wonderful opportunity to care for tiny chicks! The children were captivated as fluffy chicks took their first steps. They learned how to look after them—making sure they had food, water, warmth, and a safe place to grow

They also visited the local duck pond, where the children had the opportunity to feed the ducks using appropriate duck feed. During the visit, they explored the ducks’ natural habitat and engaged in observational learning.

Nursery

World Book Day
A big highlight of the spring term for nursery was book week! The children loved dressing up as their favourite characters - we had many great Stickmen, superheroes, and fairy tale characters! We were also lucky enough to have Michael Rosen come and perform ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. The children had a marvellous week of reading, draw-alongs and exploring stories.

Chicks

During the spring term, the nursery was lucky enough to become the proud parents of 16 eggs. The nursery children all watched the eggs hatch into very sweet, fluffy chicks. The children learnt all about the life cycle of a chicken and the importance of warmth and gentle care for the chicks.

Steam Week

As part of our STEAM Week, themed “Curiosity: What is your question?”, our pupils took part in a fantastic series of free digital creativity workshops delivered by Three Discovery. Each year group explored a different strand of creative technology, giving them the chance to experiment, problem solve, and bring their ideas to life.

Year 6 stepped into the world of filmmaking through an engaging Stop Motion workshop, learning how to plan, animate, and produce their own short sequences. Year 3 explored character design and storytelling in a lively Cartoon Making session, discovering how simple characters can be transformed into expressive animations. Year 2 developed their digital design skills by creating vibrant digital posters, combining images, colour, and text to communicate their ideas.

The workshops were a brilliant addition to our STEAM celebrations, sparking curiosity and creativity across the school. We are grateful to Three Discovery for providing such high quality sessions at no cost and for inspiring our learners to ask questions, explore new tools, and think like digital creators.

Future Inventors

The homework task, titled “Future Inventors,” invited each child to create their own scientific invention or idea. Pupils could choose how to present their work—through a drawing, a labelled diagram, a model made at home, a written description, or a combination of these. The completed projects are displayed around the school to help launch our STEAM Week theme.

Reading Cafe

The children loved spending time reading with their families at our reading cafe

Year 4 Acacia Class visited Percy House and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to explore coding. They learnt how to include a specific algorithm to make a Lego vehicle travel. As a treat, the children visited Tottenham Hotspur's ground and dressing room. They learnt that the stadium was built to equip the sound inside the stadium and how it can amplify to cause echoes.
